The Aardema Story |
“Twenty years ago, Pete Aardema had a vision.” |

Twenty years ago, Pete Aardema had a vision. Take an aluminum 350 Chevy block and adapt a pair of Cosworth Fiero 4-valve heads to each side of the V8. The idea was simple. The task, however, proved to be the challenge of a lifetime. Pete purchased a block and a pair of Cosworth Bare casting heads. He took one of the heads and reversed it by cutting the front off and welding it to the back of itself, producing a left and a right head set. An unmachined aluminum Donovan block was prepared to accept the new heads. The block was heat treated and machined, excluding the lifter bores and head bolt holes. The heads were machined by Kevin Braun and Pete. They machined the engine heads– guides, seats, bucket bores and cam bores. Cams were machined from billet by Schneider Cams of San Diego. With the help of Kevin, John Barrett from Racemate, the short block, which had seen almost four years of development and engineering, was assembled. It turned out to be a 10:1 comp engine with stock flat pistons. |
